The Society acknowledges the traditional owners of the Irwin Districts, their continuing connection to land, sea and community and pays its respects to elders and their cultures, past and present.

This year the State History Conference (also known as the Annual State History Conference of RWAHS Affiliated Societies) is being hosted by the Irwin Districts Historical Society in Dongara from 6-8 September.

The weekend will be full of interesting speakers and events and starts with a Welcome Event in Port Denison on Friday night. The Conference will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday mornings in the recently conserved Priory Hotel, with a wide array of speakers addressing the topic Waves of Change. In the afternoons attendees are invited on walking and bus tours of places of historic significance. The Conference Dinner on Saturday night will be a celebration of local hospitality, in line the Conference objective “to acknowledge and celebrate volunteers in local history and heritage”.

With accommodation in short supply in September, it is important to book as soon as possible.
